“Don’t die with your music still inside you. Listen to your intuitive inner voice and find what passion stirs your soul. Listen to that inner voice, and don’t get to the end of your life and say, ‘What if my whole life has been wrong?” – Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
Each of us is on this planet for a unique purpose. We have a calling. Sharing our gifts and following our hearts desires is a part of this purpose.
This means that what we are passionate about is often how we can best serve others.
What is waiting inside of you to be expressed? What are you meant to share with the world? I recently started playing in a new band and it has lead me to consider this in my own life. I hooked up with a couple of great song writers and an amazing vocalist named Kianna Alarid, previously of Tilly and the Wall.
Drums is my instrument, and man does it feel good just pounding into those shells. It’s a part of what I am meant to do. If you didn’t know I played the drums check out this post to learn more about me. Playing the drums has been something that I always seem to return to. I always wanted to be in a band and be “rock star” since I was a kid.
It is a true passion that fills me up and makes me feel alive. I seem to gravitate toward this form of expression. What form of expression do you seem to gravitate to? We all have a personal form of art that we are meant to express.
“The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” ~ Steve Jobs
We all have a gift to offer the world, and this comes from the authentic expression of our passions. Maybe it’s music or singing, or maybe it’s painting or writing, or speaking or practicing medicine, or being a mother or father.
Whatever your “art form” is, this is a gift you are meant to share with the world. This is where your passion lies – uncovering the art you are meant to create and offering it to the world.
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” ~ Howard Thurman
How will you know what your creative gifts are?
Here are a few questions that can help distill your true passion and probably your gifts and talents as well. – If I had all the money I ever wanted, what would I do with my life? – If my family would support anything I choose to do, what would I do? – If I knew I had only six months to live, what would I do during that time? – If I found a magic lantern with a genie who could grant me five wishes, what would I ask for?
There is only one of you! If you don’t share your gifts they will be lost. Creativity is in your soul. It is a part of being fully alive! Where can you tap into your free expression? What can you do today to let your true self speak and communicate with the word? Whatever it is, do it today!
As for me, I’ll keep you posted on the new band and how things progress. In the meantime, I will certainly be experiencing more flow and joy, and be living from a place of authentic expression. Hey and who knows, maybe I’ll end up being a rock star after all.
“There’s no passion to be found playing small — in settling for a life that is less than you are capable of living.” ~ Nelson Mandela
