Seven Traits of People Who Never Ever Give Up (Plus a Big Announcement!)

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” ― Thomas A. Edison

Did you know that J.K. Rowlings was on welfare? Or that Oprah Winfrey was told she was unfit for television? Or how about the fact that Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team? These are just a few examples of the countless stories of people who failed before they became a success. What was it that allowed these people to respond to failure the way they did? They had the ability to positively adapt to and rebound from adversity. They were resilient in the face of challenges. This resiliency is the one consistent factor between people who eventually rise up to their potential and those who live life wishing they “would have” or “could have.” We will all face adversity along the way. It may be directly related to our personal goals, or it may be a completely random life event that knocks us down. Regardless, how we respond to adversity is what matters, and fortunately we can learn ways to deal with challenges and remain mentally tough. Here are six traits of people who never ever give up.

They allow themselves to suck

The only way to get better at something or to work through an unfamiliar challenge is to accept that we are going to suck at first. It’s just like learning an instrument. I have played drums for over fifteen years and would say I am pretty damn good, but I did suck at one point. There was no way around it. You can’t excel at something until you learn the craft. Don’t give up just because something is harder than you expected.

They aren’t afraid of a challenge

People who tend to persevere thrive on challenges. They view challenges as opportunities to rise to. They know that a challenge will help them grow and expand as a person. If we avoid a challenge we are destined to stay stuck and stagnant. Don’t be afraid of a challenge. Embrace what you’re struggling with as an essential part of your development.

They are optimistic about the future

People who are resilient and never give up believe better things are yet to come. It is important that we have high hopes for our future. When life gets difficult knowing that we are moving toward something meaningful can help us persist. No matter what you’re facing, and no matter how hard your current circumstances are, you must believe that things will get better. Keep hope alive and you will keep your will alive.

Life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving, we get stronger and more resilient. – Steve Maraboli quotes

They are grateful for what they have

We can either focus on what we lack or focus on what we appreciate in our life. When we are grateful we can keep a healthy and abundant perspective. We will have a more positive attitude and be more committed because of this. Wake up each day and remind yourself what you are thankful for.

They let fear guide them

What are you afraid of? Is it fear of the unknown? Fear of failure? Your fear is there for a reason. It is meant to teach you something about who you can become. When we allow fear to be a teacher it is no longer an obstacle blocking our way. Fear is a part of the process of moving past our comfort zone and reaching new heights.

They stay inspired

Inspiration is a driving force in our ability to persevere. Inspiration fills us with energy and electrifies our will to endure whatever we may be facing. What do you do each day to find inspiration? Inspiration can come in any area of life. Seek out more of what inspires you so you can remain enthusiastic about life.

They live in the moment

When we are firmly grounded in the present, the past doesn’t get us down, and the uncertain future doesn’t leave us petrified. Creating a vision for the future is important but we must recognize that staying present as we pursue our vision is crucial to staying mentally tough and resolute. Take life one day at a time. Deal with challenges in the moment and don’t get tripped up by the countless hurdles ahead of you.

“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.”  ― Confucius

Just like the Oprah Winfrey and Michael Jordan you too can develop traits of resiliency and determination. It is a part of our nature to be able to bounce back from challenges. Believe in yourself. Believe in your mission and purpose. Don’t ever give up!
